I have a strong belief that life truly matters – there is indeed value in our deepest thoughts, affections of the heart, and actions in life. For me, I am a husband, father of 4 wonderful children, business man, funeral director, and teacher. Currently, I am part of a vibrant multi-generational family business dedicated to caregiving within our community. I serve as a managing partner in the Smith Life and Legacy family of businesses in Maryville, TN. I am also an Associate Professor at Oxford Graduate School’s American Centre for Religion and Society Studies and enjoy regular opportunities to be in simple fellowship with the lives of other people marked by faith in the way of Jesus.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford Graduate School. Currently, I am pursuing post-doctoral research in pastoral care of the bereaved with Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
Most importantly, I am a man of faith seeking to integrate the lordship of Christ into all matters of life. As such, this blog is dedicated to the musings of integrating faith, learning, and social engagement, given the miraculous breath of life itself. May we extend good favor toward the One who made us in His image by living out an authentic faith as we care for our planet and the people throughout the world who journey with us.
